About AFSC
The Armed Forces Services Corporation (AFSC), a Service Disabled Veteran owned Small Business, was established in July 2000 as a spin-off organization of the Army and Air Force Mutual Aid Association (AAFMAA). The Army Mutual Aid Association was established in 1879 as a direct result of the Battle of The Little Big Horn, commonly called "Custer's Last Stand". During frontier times, when an officer died the remaining soldiers in the unit would literally "pass the hat" to raise money for the surviving family. This system collapsed, however, with the Battle of The Little Big Horn because there was no support system left to provide assistance to the deceased soldiers' families. To remedy this situation, Army officers established the Army Mutual Aid Association "to aid the families of the deceased members in a prompt, simple and substantial manner."
In 1999, the AAFMAA Board of Directors elected to have its Member Services Department spin-off and form a separate corporation, the Armed Forces Services Corporation, and subsequently contracted AFSC to provide member and survivor services to the grandfathered AAFMAA membership. AFSC incorporated 1 July 2000 with the stated mission to "provide lifetime survivorship services, and an accurate customized government benefits analysis which can be incorporated into high quality financial planning ranging from investment and tax planning to trust services."
In addition to providing contractual services to the AAFMAA grandfathered membership, AFSC NOW offers our valuable services to ALL ranks, ALL branches of services (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard) to include active duty, reserve, and retired members; and widow and widowers of military members.
Our goal is to continue providing high quality services to military families as has been done since the beginning roots of the AAFMAA Member Services Department.
