Policy Statement

The Armed Forces Services Corporation's (AFSC) mission is to provide members with superior services along with the peace of mind of knowing that their privacy is secure. We recognize the importance of keeping personal and financial information accurate and confidential at all times. This information is handled carefully because we value the trust our members place in us when they decide to become an AFSC member or are serviced by AFSC.


Statement of Privacy Principles

We do not sell nonpublic member personal information to third parties.

We require persons or non-affiliated third party organizations, providing functions in support of services to our members, protect the confidentiality of personal information. We do not share personal information with nonaffiliated third parties for their own marketing purposes.

We do not share either nonpublic member personal information or nonpublic member personal financial information, except as may be required by law.

We offer the same level of protection of nonpublic member personal information to former members of AFSC and those formerly served by AFSC, as we afford our current members.


Categories of Information Collected

We collect personal and financial information about members from the following sources:
  • Information received from members on the member application.

  • Information received from members concerning updates to their annual Familiy Information Record (FIR) Benefit Report.

  • Information received from members on documents members sent to AFSC for storage, microfilming or data base file updates.


Security Policy and Procedures

We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect personal information. Our Security Policy provides:
  • Access to member records being restricted to employees we determine who need such information to perform job responsibilities and to provide service to the member.

  • Physical security of our building and offices.

  • Employee training concerning member privacy issues.

  • Maintaining and protecting information through software designed to enhance security: such as virus and intrusion detection software; password protection on database access; information system backup and recovery systems; and disaster recovery plans and procedures.

  • Access to member files and personal information, which is limited to (1) the member, (2) only individuals designated by the member, such as spouse, children, or parents.
